The Art Of Painting Trees And Shrubs
Over and again, a local resident from Bridgewater has put on canvas the spectacular image of Shenandoah Valley. She has been an artist for about 36 years and her reason for carrying easel and oils is not just to paint nature. She has collected hundreds of cut out of photographs from the daily news to contribute to her paintings. Obtain further advice on painting from photos and the subject of paintings.
This artist explains that being able to use black and white, as depicted in the clippings she collected, allows her to paint in an old fashioned way. She added that she often clips photos of an object or animal that she wants to use in a larger scenic painting. The artist holds up a used-newspaper photo clipping with two millstones to illustrate how she actually painted the large mural found on her family room. The rustic millhouse near the riverbank in the photo blends perfectly well with the grey mill wheels.
She implies that the big mural on the wall is a depiction of what happens when she uses photos to put detail to weather board paintings, wood land animals, and other things. Water is her only tool for this. Water, however, is easy to use for painting because it dries out fast.
She has plans of beginning another painting about a snow scene, like in the newspaper cut out that she displayed. Snow is far easier than anything else because it goes fast. This artist only hangs two or three paintings in her home, which are the large mural, and two other smaller scenes. Apparently, the rest of her countless paintings are either sold or given away. The Hagerstown furniture store in Maryland is her most active customer. She is always happy to paint for her neighbors and friends. She says she has so many orders she needs to get busy and start filling them up. She receives tons of orders during the Christmas months because people usually give her paintings as gifts.
A nice old lady from the neighborhood gave her painting lessons when she was 13, in their home in Rockingham County, Green mount section. Back then she would pay the lady 25 cents for a lesson and sit with her an entire afternoon. Using a drill and a paring knife, her mother made her a small pallet from a lightweight board. It was her first and she displayed it. Decoupage on it was a note about how it was made and it was stained with paint all over.
The family also built a family room onto their home with materials from their church that was torn down about six years ago. You get a clear view of the river thanks to the huge glass wall on one entire face of the room, and as the sun filters through you could just see how amazing it is. The glass wall was used in order to bring the natural outdoors inside the house.
There seemed to be something missing when she was painting the mural. Three quarters through she sand papered the painting off because the children didn't like the way she mixed the gold the reds and the rusts. She said that she might not add anymore painting to her home because the sunny den wouldn't get noticed apart from the large and scenic mural on the wall.
