How do you put a protective coat on a canvas painting?
I bought a canvas painting from an online store but it does not have a protective coat on it. Are there special coats for canvas to be used and can I do it myself? Or is somebody aware of local artist/ store in Chicago, IL who can help me out?
Its a beautiful painting so I don't want to ruin it! Any help appreciated.

If it's either oil or acrylic, an original painting, you can buy the appropriate varnish if you feel you need to. Why do you think it doesn't have a protective layer - they aren't always obvious. If it's a print on canvas that looks like a painting, then leave well alone, and probably leave well alone anyway.
