2012-the New Movie at the Box Office
The end of the world as we know it
The world is going to end again. Speculation of the end of the word sends people buying water and food storage just like then did in 1999. Im not really sure exactly how rumors that the world was going to end or that we could expect the Second Coming of Christ began, but they were everywhere and even easier to find than money lenders.
All computers were bound to stop working, Jan 1, 2000. Since we're still here, we'll focus on the next end of the world, 2012.Will the world end when the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012.
2012? pulls in the big bucks
The film 2012, which stars John Cusack and details the upcoming apocalypse, beat out all of the other films in theaters in terms of ticket sales over the weekend. This may be because "Pirate Radio" was only released in a few theaters, leaving 2012 the only real new movie out this weekend.
A Christmas Carol pushed out of #1 spot by $65 million 2012. one spot at No 2. 3rd in was "The Men Who Stare at Goats" with $6.1 million. "Precious," a riveting story by Oprah & Tyler Perry came in no. 4th spot making $6.ticket sales of $1 million. "Precious" is only being shown right now in fewer than 200 movie houses, so this is amazing. Michael Jacksons This Is It remained in the top five, making $5.1 million.

The Mayan Long Count calendar comes to an end on Dec. 21, 2012. This is actually the year 5125 on that calendar. Some theories are that 2012 is a wake-up call for all of us. People said it marked the apocalypse.
2012 says disaster will strike. The storyline comes from the belief that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. 2012 is a great adventure action-packed movie not representing the beliefs of the Mayan people, just selling tickets.
Box office top 10
Amazingly, despite horrible reviews, both Fourth Kind and Couples Retreat did well at the box office, coming in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Couples Retreat is still up there, pulling in viewers. After 5 weeks on the Box Office charts. "Paranormal Activity" came in no. 8.
This weekend alone, Paranormal Activity made more than $4 million, even though it only cost $11,000 to make. 2012 has made more than $100 million in just a few days. Rounding out the top 10 box office moneymakers, Law Abiding Citzen made $3.9 million dollars, followed by the Box with 3.2 million.
