I'd like to add the values from A1 to A3 and to add 100 so the final answer would be 250. why isn't this possible ? I get error !

How strange, this works perfectly for me in Excel 2003, 2007 and 2010.
What happens if you just try to sum A1:A3 =SUM(A1:A3)?
Do you still get errors in that case? If so it could be that at least one of the three values in cells A1 to A3 don't have real numbers in them - it sounds patronising to say it, but it's worth checking on a blank sheet if you haven't already done so.
